MANDI GOBINDGARH: Desh Bhagat University and The Himalayan Foundation celebrated 77th Independence Day with great fervor. The event commenced with the garlanding of statues of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Sardar Lal Singh, freedom fighter, and unfurling of the Tricolor by Chief Guest Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University, Dr Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor, Dr Abhijit Joshi, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Sandeep Singh, President, Dr Harsh Sadawarti, Vice-President, and Dr Virinder Singh, Advisor to Chancellor.
Dr Zora Singh in his presidential address highlighted the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. He remembered the sacrifices and patriotism of S. Lal Singh, his father. He said the day keeps the memories of the freedom fighters’ struggle alive in our minds.
Dr Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor, in her address said that this day reminds us of the pain of being enslaved and of the strength in unity. It defines sacrifice, gives us an example that some wars can be won with non-violence, and of all the things, it makes us value and cherish the freedom we have today.
She said it is our responsibility, as proud citizens of this country, to sincerely perform our duty and progress together for the growth and development of our country. She also appreciated the efforts of all the University faculty members, students, staff members for successfully arranging the programme in the campus and congratulated them for the same.
Col Pardeep Kumar, Registrar, congratulated the student participants for wonderful performances giving a message of peace, love and brotherhood.
A cultural programme was also presented by the students where participants sang patriotic songs.
