Dr Grover traces scientific heritage of Punjab

MOHALI: Department of Mechanical Engineering of University School of Engineering and Technology of the Rayat Bahra University organized an expert talk on the `Scientific Heritage of Punjab’ by eminent scholar Dr Arun Kumar Grover, a former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Dr Grover during his thoroughly researched presentation on the Scientific Heritage of Punjab traced the evolution of higher education in India, right from the establishment of Takshshila University hundreds of years ago.

Dr Grover, who has also been a senior professor at the School of Natural Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, lauded the valuable contributions in the field of education made by stalwarts of Indian higher education, which included names like Gurudutt Vidyarthi, Rai Bahadur Shiv Ram Kashyap, Prof Birbal Sahni, Dr Mohinder Singh Randhawa, Dr Gurdev Singh Khush, Dr Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar among many others.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, along with Vice-Chancellor Dr Parvinder Singh and Registrar Prof BS Satyal welcomed Dr Grover. Dr Satyal introduced the guest speaker to the Heads of the departments and faculty of the University.

Dr Parvinder Singh, speaking on the occasion, highlighted the achievements of Dr Grover and shared his experiences while working with him at Panjab University.

The talk ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Abhinav A Tripathi, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  He emphasised the need of organising more such talks by eminent scholars to promote research among teaching fraternity.

The talk was also attended by research scholars and students through online streaming on various social media platforms.
