Desh Bhagat University has established Mata Jarnail Kaur Corpus Fund Scholarship Scheme for Needy Students

MANDI GOBINDGARH: Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh has established the Mata Jarnail Kaur Corpus Fund Scholarship Scheme to support meritorious, needy, underprivileged, economically backward, physically challenged individuals and girl children, among other categories.

This initiative reflects the university’s commitment to inclusivity and equal educational opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds who may face financial or other challenges in pursuing higher education. Desh Bhagat University marked this significant milestone during its Diwali celebration program held on campus.
The scholarship fund honors the legacy of Mata Jarnail Kaur and is being initiated with a generous contribution of Rs.1 crore by S. Hardev Singh, a respected advocate and philanthropist. Shri Hardev Singh was also honored on this occasion.

The university is also encouraging further contributions from individuals and organizations who wish to support the cause, with the goal of broadening the fund’s reach and impact.

Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, expressed his gratitude for the establishment of the fund and highlighted its significance in bridging the gap in educational access. "This scholarship is not only a tribute to Mata Jarnail Kaur but also a step towards fostering equality in education by empowering students who may otherwise be deprived of opportunities due to financial or social constraints, " he added, "Our vision is to enable every deserving student to achieve their dreams and build a better future for themselves and society."
Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur was also specially present at the event, adding her support to the Mata Jarnail Kaur corpus fund scholarship announcement.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Joshi said that With this initiative, Desh Bhagat University reaffirms its commitment to empowering youth, promoting diversity, and setting a benchmark in higher education inclusivity across the region.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, Vice President DBU, said that Mata Jarnail Kaur Corpus Fund Scholarship is expected to ease the financial burden on eligible students, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits without the distraction of financial stress.
