PHAGWARA: The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Doaba, under the leadership of State General Secretary Satnam Singh Sahni, today held a state-level meeting at Gurudwara Sukhchiana Sahib, Phagwara, to strategize a protest against the Punjab government. The meeting was convened in response to the arrest of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) (Non-Political) leaders at the Shambhu and Khanouri borders on March 19.

CHANDIGARH: BKU described the meager increase in MSP of wheat as a cruel joke on already distressed farmers. In a joint statement issued by BHupinder Singh Mann Ex MP and national President BKU and Punjab BKU President Baldev Singh Mianpur, they rejected the increase in MSP of wheat out rightly. They said that as per agriculture experts the cost of production of wheat comes to Rs. 2730 per quintal. Thus with the MSP proposed now at Rs. 1525, the farmers have to bear a loss of Rs. 1205 for every quintal of wheat.
