Himachal Pradesh implements Parvat Dhara Yojna in 10 districts

CHANDIGARH:The government of Himachal Pradesh has decided to implement Parvat Dhara Yojjna
in 10 districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti to rejuvenate and recharge acquifers in an effort
to conservenatural water resources. The scheme has a provision of outlay of Rs 20 crore. It is stated
by the spokesperson of the government.
The forest Department has to play a vital role in implementing the scheme as the 2/3 land in
the state comprise forest land and 27 per cent is under forest cover. The Forest Department has
started construction of storage structures so that irrigation facilities can be provided in sloping fields.
Water conservation, construction and maintenance of reservoirs and management are also
the part of the scheme. It will help in rejuvenating water resources and spare water for irrigation
purposes, said the spokesperson.
In 2020-21, the forest department has started work on pilot plan in 10 forest
divisions—Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Jogindernagar, Nachan, Parvati, Nurpur, Rajgarh, Nalagarh, Theog and
Dalhousie. It is also stated that the scheme also included cleanliness and maintenance of ponds at
various places. Besides, construction of new pons, contaur trench, check dams will be taken and
retaining wall to control soil erosion.
Aims at increasing water level along with improvement of flora in the state for which
plantations especially fruit bearing plants will be carried out.
Provision of fund for cleanliness of forests and prevention of first fire has been made. During
the last fiscal, the forest department has spent Rs 2.76 crore under the scheme and constructed 110
big and small ponds, 600 check dams and walls, 12, 000 contour trenches along with plantation.
