Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary condemns attempt to damage Dr Ambedkar’s statue, says swift action taken by police

PHILLAUR:Former Punjab Youth Congress president and Phillaur assembly constituency incharge Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary on Tuesday strongly condemned the attempt to damage the statue of Bharat Ratna Baba Sahib Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar installed in the city and said that the local police had taken swift action in the matter and had arrested a person.

Terming the incident regrettable, shameful and reprehensible, he said the police had arrested Bhiku Meena, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, in connection with the case.

Vikramjit Chaudhary stated that it was unfortunate that the attempt to damage the statue of the architect of Indian Constitution was made on the day the first ever Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab took oath of office, adding, that the desecration of the statue was unforgivable.

Warning that the insidious plans of such anti-social forces will not be allowed to succeed, he informed that Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had directed the police to take very strict action against people trying to disturb law and order situation in Punjab.

Vikramjit Chaudhary appealed to the people of Phillaur to maintain peace and harmony in the city.
