Vet Varsity organizes lecture series on special issues for awareness

LUDHIANA: College of Animal Biotechnology (CoABT), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU) under ICAR scheme on “Strengthening and Development of Higher Education in India” organized programmes to enrich students’ knowledge in the current scientific and social areas.

Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor was chief patron and Dr Y S Malik, Dean, CoABT was patron for the events. In the inaugural session, Dr Malik informed that there is dire need to prepare the students to update their knowledge in ongoing trends in science. To match the changing trends it is required that outgoing students should be self-reliant and CoABT is trying to make its students able to face the world independently. Dr R. S. Sethi, Prof. & Head and Dr Simrinder Singh Sodhi, Associate Professor were coordinators of the programmes.

Different guest speakers interacted with students in different sessions. Dr Ashoo Toor from PAU, elaborated the 'Diction in Academic Writing' along with the understanding of the 'Process of Technical and Research Writing'. Students were appraised of writing skills for research papers and thesis.Dr Rajiv Kaul, Professor, University of Delhi deliberated on 'Next generation of vaccines: the lessons from history and implications for future'. He revealed the importance of vaccines with special reference to the ongoing pandemic of COVID. The third lecture series was held on the topic enhancing communication skills: Battling the fear within. Dr Sumedha Bhandhari from PAU trained the participants for better communication skills. The emphasis was laid on effective and clear communication. Students were encouraged to participate in fearless and clear communication.

In another lecture discussion was held on “Stress Management and Mindfulness” by Dr Harpreet Singh, PRO, GADVASU. Dr Harpreet helped the students in managing stress especially during the current scenario of pandemic. He taught different methods to avoid stress in day-to-day life. Dr Simrinder Singh Sodhi informed that to strengthen and develop entrepreneurial skills among the students, COABT is working extensively. He added that due to the ongoing scenario COABT is organizing these lectures through online mode and students are actively participating in these programmes.
