To save ground water , Punjab to provide subsidy upto 90 % for drip irrigation

KAPURTHALA: Punjab Government has launched a special caimpaign to save ground water under " Micro irrigation " policy as the farmers would be able to attain subsidy upto 80 to 90 % on drip irrigation projects.

Soil conservation, water resources Horticulture and technical education Minister of Punjab Rana Gurjit singh said that " it was the dire need to implement a comprehensive plan in drip irrigation sector as many of the blocks in the state falls under Dark zones in terms of depletion of ground water.

Under this policy the farmers would be able to get subsidy on first come , first serve basis. The common farmers can avail subsidy upto 80 % whereas the farmers belongs to SC, marginal category and women farmers would get it upto 90 %.

The Minister said that " we have the landlocked state and ground water is the most precious resource we have only ". He said that drip irrigation not only saves 40 to 60 % water in agriculture sector but also pesticides etc could be supplied directly to the root zone of crop via drip irrigation .

Calling upon the farmers to avail maximum benefits of this scheme, the Minister said that helpline nos have also issued to facilitate farming community.
