CHABBAL (TARN TARAN): In a major boost to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the entire Azad group joined the SAD in the presence of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal who nominated it’s leader Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa as the party candidate for the forthcoming bye-election from this constituency.
Speaking at a massive political conference held at Jhabal village on the occasion, the SAD president said “today’s congregation has set the tone for a SAD victory in the forthcoming bye-election”. Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, while joining the SAD along with 43 sitting Sarpanches, 8 Municipal Councillors and dozens of former Sarpanches and Chairmen, said the Azad group had taken this decision in the interest of the constituency as well as the Panth and Punjab. Principal Randhawa was also made the halqa incharge of this constituency on the occasion.
He also appointed senior party leader S Gulzar Singh Ranike as the incharge for Tarntaran bypoll campaign.
Stating that the AAP role in the incidents of sacrilege had been proved by the conviction of its legislator for committing sacrilege of the holy Koran Shareef, Badal said “the crime was double fold as cabinet minister Harpal Cheema and Harjot Bains defended the culprit”. He said the AAP culpability in defending the sacrilege perpetrator did not stop there. “AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal tried to get Naresh Yadav off the hook by prevailing upon the complainant to withdraw his complaint and even urging the session judge to withdraw the case against Yadav in this light”. He said later Kejriwal even renominated Yadav as the party candidate from Mehrauli in the last assembly elections.
