PHAGWARA: The Municipal Corporation Phagwara has appealed to residents to pay their property tax for the financial year 2025–26 by September 30 to avail a 10 percent rebate. M.C.Phagwara Commissioner Dr. Akshita Gupta (IAS) said the civic body’s office would remain open on weekends and gazetted holidays until the deadline, ensuring citizens face no difficulty in clearing their dues.

Emphasizing the importance of timely tax collection, Dr. Gupta noted that property tax is a vital source of revenue for the corporation, directly funding improved civic amenities and infrastructure development. “We urge all residents to take advantage of this opportunity and pay their dues before the deadline to avail the rebate, ” she said.
Supporting the Commissioner’s appeal, Mayor Rampal Uppal stressed that citizen cooperation plays a crucial role in the city’s progress. He said timely payments strengthen development initiatives and ensure uninterrupted execution of civic projects and services. The Municipal Corporation has also assured that its staff will remain available to guide and assist taxpayers during this period, underlining its commitment to transparency and ease of service.

In another initiative aimed at public welfare, Dr. Gupta announced the launch of the Lok Kalyan Mela, which began on Wednesday and will continue till October 2 at the Municipal Corporation office. As part of the program, special facilitation counters have been established to help beneficiaries access the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme.

The scheme, a flagship program of the Government of India, seeks to empower street vendors by offering collateral-free working capital term loans. It provides loans in three progressive tranches: up to ₹15, 000 repayable within 12 months, up to ₹25, 000 repayable within 18 months, and up to ₹50, 000 repayable within 36 months. Applicants must submit a duly filled form along with their Aadhaar card linked with a mobile number, two recent passport-size photographs, bank account details, and a mandated affidavit.

Encouraging street vendors to avail the benefits, Dr. Gupta said the scheme would enable them to strengthen their livelihood by gaining easy access to formal credit and working capital support. She urged eligible vendors across Phagwara to make full use of the assistance being provided under the Lok Kalyan Mela.
