PHAGWARA: Lawyers in Phagwara on Thursday abstained from work as the District Bar Association, Kapurthala, observed a strike in solidarity with the Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh.
The strike call was given following an appeal from the High Court Bar Association after an unfortunate incident involving allegations of misconduct, assault, intimidation with a weapon, and objectionable social media posts against its office-bearers.
In response, the Executive Committee of the District Bar Association, Kapurthala, unanimously resolved to support the High Court Bar by observing a day-long strike. Advocates in Phagwara and surrounding areas refrained from court work, with proceedings at local courts, revenue courts, consumer court, and labour court largely affected.
Bar leaders said the step was necessary to collectively uphold the dignity and sanctity of the legal profession, and they sought the cooperation of judicial officers in the matter.
