Stamping Indian Currency Notes and Distributing Them as ‘Khazana’ Is Against Gurmat, Gurbani and Sikh Rehat Maryada: Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala

AMRITSAR: Sikh thinker and Punjab BJP spokesperson Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala has expressed serious concern over the continuous practice at Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj (Chatiwind Chowk), the sacred shrine of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, where certain individuals are distributing money by stamping Indian currency notes with seals such as “Khazana Baba Deep Singh Ji, ” “Shaheed Ganj Baba Deep Singh Ji, ” and “Sevak Jatha Ishnan.”

He stated that despite being fully aware of this anti-Gurmat practice, the President of the Sh 👍iromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, and the Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, have failed to take any concrete notice so far, which is extremely alarming. He said that this practice is a direct violation of the Gurmat concept of Naam and Bani, core Sikh principles, Gurbani, and Sikh Rehat Maryada, and such open and arbitrary conduct must be stopped immediately.

Prof. Khiala emphasized that in Sikhism, the “treasure of Naam” is attained through Gurbani, Simran, selfless service, and righteous conduct — not by stamping Indian currency notes and treating them as blessings to be carried in pockets or purses. Such actions mislead the sangat away from Gurmat and push them towards a materialistic mindset, which is a direct betrayal of the spirit and values of Sikhism.

He further said that it is even more serious that such activities are taking place within a gurdwara functioning under the SGPC’s administration. Despite the matter reaching both the SGPC and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, neither the Jathedar nor the SGPC President has taken a clear and firm stand.
