FEROZEPUR:The shsheedi divas of Shaheed Udham Singh was observed with great enthusiasm at Guru Harsahaye in this district om Saturday.Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi Cabinet Minister for Sports, Youth Services and NRI Affairs Punjab Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi
performed the unveiling ceremony of Shaheed Udham Singh's talent at Shaheed Udham Singh Panjab University Constitution Guruharsahai.
Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi also laid the foundation stone for renovation of road from FF Road to Midda.
Meanwhile, Baba Hermes Das Ji, a devotee of Baja Ke Dera Baba Ram Thaman, offered prayers.
Addressing the media and local residents, Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi said that it was due to the sacrifices of such martyrs that we are enjoying free Fiza today.
He said that it was his wish to set up a college at Guruharsahai and this wish was fulfilled by the government of Capt. Amarinder Singh and the villagers also provided land for setting up a college here.
He said that now on the occasion of his government he has got the opportunity to inculcate the talent of Shaheed Udham Singh in this college and by engaging this talent in the college the generations to come will know the sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh. "I am proud that on the occasion of Shaheed Udham Singh's martyrdom day, I have had the opportunity to unveil his talent, " he said. He said that Shaheed Udham Singh did not let the spark of revenge for the killing of unarmed and innocent Punjabis by Michael O'Dwyer on the day of Baisakhi in 1919 go out of his mind for 20 years and Udham Singh avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Michael O'Dwyer was shot dead on 13 March 1940 and Udham Singh was hanged on 31 July 1940 in a London jail.
