AMRITSAR:The members of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has authorised to Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal president Shiromani Akali Dal to select the name for president of SGPC. Sukhbir Singh Badal addressed the members of SGPC here on Sunday.
Talking to media after meeting with about 100 members of SGPC at Teja Singh Samundari Hall, the headquarters of the SGPC , , Mr.Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the members have given him the right to elect the President. However, only the members in the House would elect their President and the rest of the office bearers.
Criticizing the dominant envelope culture in the selection of committee office bearers, Mr. Badal said that they did not have any envelope nor did they keep any pen with which one could write one's name in the envelope.
. Praising the one year tenure of Bibi Jagir Kaur, he said that Bibi ji has served with full dedication and she also needs the services of Bibi ji in the field of politics.
The annual election of the President and other office bearers of the Shormani Committee is going to be held on November 29 at the historic Teja Singh Samundari Hall.
The name on the top of the list of probables is Harjinder Singh Dhami, who is the honorary chief secretary of the SGPC. Dhami, a law graduate, has been the SGPC member since 1996 and also served as its general secretary during the 2019 tenure.
The SGPC general body meeting will be held at Teja Singh Samundari Hall within Golden Temple tomorrow to elect its president.
