SGPC distributes Rs. 22 lakh scholarships to students appearing for religious examinations

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee today distributed scholarships worth about Rs. 22 lakh to 990 students of the religious examination for the session.

In annual religious examination session 2019-20 through the Dharam Prachar Committee organized by the Shiromani Committee, 17 students of four grades secured first, second and third place in Merit and were awarded special prizes of Rs. 5100, 4100 and 3100 respectively. Bibi Jagir Kaur was honored by giving money.

SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur honored the students with scholarship cheques and insignia during the scholarship distribution function held at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan within Golden Temple complex here today.

Speaking on the occasion Bibi Jagir Kaur said that children and youth are the future of the nation and it is very important for them to be aware of religion. If they are aware of Sikh values and Sikh culture, it will undoubtedly be the rising star of the nation. She said that it was under this scheme for a long time that religious examinations were conducted by the SGPC in which thousands of students from schools and colleges participated every year. This time too around 50, 000 students had appeared in the religious examination, out of which 990 students got scholarships, while 17 students performed well and secured places in Merit. The SGPC President said that it was imperative for future generations to be mature in being a Sikh and the SGPC was connecting students of schools and colleges with Sikh doctrines and history through religious examinations.

Jagir Kaur congratulated the students who got merit and scholarships during the religious examination and encouraged them to be interested in learning about Sikhism in the future as well. On this occasion the teachers of the schools who showed good performance during the religious examination were also honored


First place went to Navpreet Kaur, a student of Guru Arjan Dev Public School, Barat Sahib, Pathankot, second place to Sanmeet Kaur of Baba Diwan Singh Model School, Raipur Arai, Kapurthala and third place to Palakpreet Kaur of Guru Nanak Dev Academy, Batala.

Similarly Ramanjot Kaur of Guru Nanak Dev Public School Basia Ludhiana, Jaskarandeep Singh of Guru Nanak Kindergarten School Kala Afghana Gurdaspur and Ashandeep Kaur of Firkat Senior Secondary School Talewal Barnala bagged the first, second and third place respectively while Guru Arjan Dev Collegiate School, Chauhala Sahib bagged the third place. Received by Gurwinder Singh of Tarn Taran.

Third place went to Mandeep Kaur of Baba Aiya Singh Riardki College Tugalwala Gurdaspur, second place to Lovejot Kaur of the same college and Baba Namdev University College Kishankot Gurdaspur's Lovelin Kaur and third place to Baba Aiya Riardki Tugalwala's Shubhpreet Kaur, Baba Namdev University College Kishankot Navpreet Kaur and Mandeep Kaur of Khalsa College, Garhdivala, Hoshiarpur.

Manpreet Kaur of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Sukhbir Kaur of Baba Aiya Singh Riardki College, Tugalwala and Harpreet Kaur, a student of Khalsa College, Patiala and Kiranbir Kaur of Guru Nanak College for Girls, Muktsar Sahib bagged the first, second and third places respectively.
