AMRITSAR: The incident of stopping an Amritdhari Gursikh youth from entering a metro station at Amritsar-Delhi with a kirpan is a violation of the Constitution of the country and the perpetrators should be severely punished.

This was stated by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami , in a press statement here on Friday evening he said that there were frequent cases of tampering with the religious sentiments of Sikhs in the country and it was unfortunate that the governments were not taking any exemplary action against the perpetrators.

He said that in the Constitution of India every citizen of the country is free to uphold their religious beliefs. Despite this, the religious symbols of the Sikhs are being questioned.
He said that the Ministry of Civil Aviation had recently issued a notification banning the wearing of kirpan on Amritdhari Sikh employees at the airports, which was withdrawn by the Ministry following the opposition of the SGPC. .
He said that now at a metro station in Delhi, a policeman was forcing an Amritdhari youth to take off his kirpan and get his size checked.
He said that Delhi was home to a large number of Sikhs and no resident of the capital was confused about the religious symbols of the Sikhs.
He said that the incident was committed on purpose and strict action should be taken against the culprits.
Advocate Dhami said that the SGPC would write a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs of India and the Government of Delhi in this regard so that no one could question the religious symbols of Sikhs in future.
