SGPC demanded to ensure the safety of Sikhs in Afghanistan

AMRITSAR:The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded the governments of India and Afghanistan to ensure the safety of Sikhs living in Afghanistan. Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Chief Secretary, SGPC, said in a press statement issued from its headquarters here today said that the declining number of Sikhs in Afghanistan was a matter of grave concern which the Government of India should take seriously and ensure the well-being of the Sikhs living there. Make efforts to protect .

He said that earlier there were millions of Sikhs living in Afghanistan but now their number is very limited. The reason is a sense of insecurity.

He further said that Sikhs were facing many difficulties in Afghanistan. There have been two major racial attacks on Sikhs in Afghanistan in recent times.

Many, including Sikh community leaders, were killed. That is why the Sikhs of Afghanistan are terrified and governments have a responsibility to ensure their safety, he added.

Mr. Dhami said that wherever the Sikhs resided in the country and the world, they worked hard for their progress and prosperity. Following the teachings of his Gurus, he carried on the tradition of cooperation with everyone.

Chief Secretary said the Sikh community seeks the welfare of all humanity, but sadly the Sikhs in Afghanistan are being pushed.

He appealed to the Government of India to address the plight of Sikhs living in Afghanistan. He said that the SGPC
would also write a letter to the Government of India in this regard.
