Sangrur residents enthusiastically participate in Walkathon organized for awareness against drugs

SANGRUR: Following the directions of Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to mobilize the people of the state against the use of drugs, a 5-km long Walkathon was organised today by the district administration and Sangrur Police.

Thousands of Sangrur residents led by Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal participated enthusiastically in the Walkathon. On this occasion, the students participating in the walkathon raised awareness slogans against drugs by holding placards. After this walkathon, a 4x400 meter relay race was also conducted at the War Heroes Stadium and the participants also administered an oath to stand against drug addiction.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said that the district administration has continuously been sensitising the residents of Sangrur for complete eradication of drugs. He said that along with conducting awareness activities for this purpose, free treatment facilities are being provided to drug abuse victims. He said that apart from locating the victims from villages and cities, they being encouraged to undergo free treatment at drug de-addiction and rehabilitation center in Ghabdan as well as OOAT centers.

Deputy Commissioner informed that before this walkathon, poster making competitions were held in all the upper-primary schools of the district to create awareness about the ill effects of drugs in which the students exhibited excellent art skills. He also urged the residents of Sangrur, especially the students, to stand against drugs and assured that the district administration would provide all possible help to the citizens to prevent drugs.

On this occasion SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal said that the Sangrur Police is fully committed to the complete eradication of drug addiction and it is being ensured that strict legal action is taken against drug traffickers to break the cycle of drug trafficking. He appealed to the residents of Sangrur to be vigilant against the use of drugs and to report any information about drugs to the district police immediately so that it can be eradicated from the root.

On this occasion, the winners of the poster making competition and the winners of the relay race were felicitated.

On this occasion Assistant Commissioner Jaspinder Singh, SDM Sangrur Charanjot Singh Walia, SDM Dhuri Amit Gupta, SDM Bhawanigarh Vineet Kumar, SDM Dirba Rajesh Sharma, SDM Sunam Pramod Singla, SDM Lehra Suba Singh, SP Navreet Singh Virk, SP Palwinder Singh Cheema, Chairman Punseed Mahinder Singh Sidhu, Chairman Improvement Trust Pritam Singh Peetu, Chairman Market Committee Sangrur Avtar Singh Elwal, Chairman Market Committee Dhuri Rajwant Singh Ghulli, Chairman Market Committee Sunam Mukesh Juneja, Chairman Darshan Singh Geeti Mann, DSP Manoj Gorsi, District Sports Officer Navdeep Singh and a large number of students of schools and colleges, members of youth clubs, sportsmen, officials and a large number of dignitaries were present.
