TARN TARAN: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today condemned the central government decision to take control of Panjab University, Chandigarh by issuing a notification ending elections in it’s Syndicate and packing the Senate with nominated and ex- officio memjbers.
Talking to media persons while addressing well attended election meetings in the constituency in favour of party candidate Prof Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, the SAD president said the centre was consistently diluting the rights of Punjab be it on the issue of it’s capital city Chandigarh, river water rights, control over Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) or Panjab Univeristy.
Condemning the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for remaining silent on such an important issue, Mr Sukhbir Badal said “ Punjab’s rights are being encroached upon ever since AAP came into power in the State. If you want to save Punjab’s rights then support your own regional party which can fight against such injustices. We will not let Punjab’s rights be trampled upon at any cost”, he added.
Speaking about the future road map of the SAD during public meetings, Mr Badal said “once elected to government in 2027 we will ensure that all poor persons will have a house of their own. We will let any Kutcha house remain in the State. We will also ensure that all land situated in the Lal dora of villages will be registered to protect the property rights of the people”.
Mr Badal also lauded the party cadre for standing up to illegalities committed by AAP leaders and particularly its candidate Harmeet Sandhu. He said Harmeet Sandhu would also have to face the law for registering false cases against Akali workers.
He also spoke on how Congress leaders were eulogising Indira Gandhi who had attacked Sri Darbar Sahib with tanks and mortars. “Raja Warring proclaims her as his mother while everyone knows how senior Congres leader Sukhjinder Randhawa’s father Santokh Randhawa congratulated Indira Gandhi for ordering the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib.
Mr Badal also appealed to the people to support the SAD which alone could put Punjab back on the track of development and progress. He also appealed to the people to support the party candidate who belonged to a Dharmi Fauji family which had made tremendous sacrifices for the quom.
