SAD leader Bikram Majithia booked in drug case

CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia was today booked in an old drug case. He may be arrested soon, sources said.

It is learnt that Punjab Bureau of Investigation has registered FIR against Majithia in Banur police station on the basis of report submitted by Special Task Force headed by IGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu. FIR was registered under section 25/27A/29 of NDPC act.

The case was registered after S chatopadhya took of as DGP Punjab and reviewed the STF report. It is recalled that Chatopadhya had also headed SIT on drugs and he had submitted sealed report to Punjab and Haryana High Court. Punjab government has requested the High Court to open the sealed report. Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was allegedly shielding Majithia and didnt follow the case in High Court.

Jagdish Bhola drug lord who was arrested by Punjab Police in the sntehtic drug case had named Bikram Majithia as kingpin of drug trade in Punjab. The then Parkash Singh Badal government had shifted the SSP Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Hardayal Singh who had obtained confession against Majithia. Bhola had then named Majithia kingpin of synthetic drug trade. Fatehgarh Sahib police had arrested a Canada based BRI Anoop Singh who named Jagdish Bhola as an accomplice. Bhola is a dismissed DSP of Punjab Police.

All political parties including Congress, BJP and AAP were demanding arrest of Majithia in drug case. He was also named as an accused in the Rs.6000 crore synthetic drug hawala case investigated by Enforcement Directorate. Majithia was questioned by ED on December 26, 2014 but case was hushed up dur to political pressure when SAD was in political alliance with BJP. 

ED Deputy Director Niranjan Singh who was investigating the drug case against Majithia was transferred but later High Court had stayed his transfer. Senior Cousel Anupam Gupta had then informed the High Court that Niranjab Singh is under pressure since the name f Bikram Singh Majithia has surfaced in the case. He ven alleged that senior ED officials were threarning Nirnajan Singh.

Navjot Singh Sidhu PPCC president was putting pressure on Punjab Government for the arrest of Majithia who is named in the report prepared by STF on drugs. Charanjit Singh Channi was initially hesitant to move against Majithia had on December 18 changed the DGP Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota and appointed S Chatopadhya in his place.
