AMRITSAR: With the efforts of Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Mrs. Sakshi Sahni , who is always ready to help the needy , two NRI cousins have collaborated and built such a shared home for destitute elderly women in Guru Nagri , where the elderly will be provided with a home-like environment , food , medicines and care without charging any money.
Giving information in the meeting of Red Cross Amritsar today, Red Cross Chairperson cum Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sahni said that we have made arrangements for the accommodation of 24 women in a 2700 yard space on Luharka Road.
She said that this house has been named Dignity Home , where those helpless women , who do not have children to take care of , who are in need , will be kept.
She said that in this house, elderly women above 60 years of age will be provided with all the facilities that are required in old age.
She said that along with food, medical assistance , medicines and care will also be provided by the Red Cross.
She praised NRIs Pavneet Singh and Manish Arora for this contribution and said that they are such entrepreneurs who have built this common house on the land of Amritsar while living abroad and cherishing their love for mother earth.
The Deputy Commissioner gave the responsibility of this house to the young IAS officer Madam Piyusha and assured all possible support.
She appealed to the city residents that any elderly woman who is helpless , whose children do not live with her or do not have a house , can take the help of the Red Cross to stay in this house.
She said that for now we have started it with 24 beds and in the future it can be increased further as per the need. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Rohit Gupta , Red Cross Secretary Mr. Samson Masih , Mrs. Smiley Chaudhary , Mr. Ajay Judeja , Mr. P. C. Thakur and other office bearers of the society were present in the meeting.
