Raising the standard of medical education and research is the target of the state government-Dr. Raj Kumar Verka

CHANDIGARH: Reiterating the commitment of the state government to raise the standard of medical education and research, Dr. Raj Kumar Verka said that projects worth Rs. 219 crore are being implemented for the rejuvenation of Patiala government medical college and hospital. With the full implementation of these projects the people of Malwa region would start getting better facilities for treatment.

According to minister for medical education and research Dr. Verka, projects worth Rs 93.73 crore are currently underway at Government Medical college and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Out of these, MCH Building Works (Rs. 6.66 crore), Dental Block-C (Rs. 5.46 crore), Electrical Works (Rs. 3.85 crore), Lifts (Rs. 1.32 crore) and Multi-storey Parking (Rs. 12.12 crore) projects have been completed. While nursing hostel, renovation of wards, new building of institute, renovation of medical college, Renovation of T.B. Hospital, Ayurvedic Electrical, Renovation of Ayurvedic Hospital, Renovation of Ayurvedic College and Public Health Works projects are underway. These projects worth Rs. 64.22 crore will be completed by December this year.


Dr. Verka said that apart from the above projects, other new projects worth Rs. 128.1 crore are also being executed in Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. The most important of these projects is the construction of Emergency / Trauma Center which is being set up at a cost of Rs. 42.08 crore. The project will be completed by December 2022. In addition, STP / CTP Project, Multi-storey Houses for Group C and D staff, Sports Complex, New hostel at RHTC Bhadson, CCTV in campus, AC emergency block, central lab, machinery and repair of doctors' hostel are also being implemented. Out of these 86.02 Rs. crore development work, most of the projects will be completed by 2022 while the construction of Central Lab and Sports Complex will be ready by March 2023.

 

Dr. Verka said that his aim is to raise the standard of medical education and research in the state so that the people could get better treatment facilities as well as to further improve the quality of medical education.
