Raising the issue of banned Hindi book 'Sikh Itihas' again and again is a mischievous act: SGPC

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has warned the sangat that some anti-Sikh forces are trying to discredit the SGPC, the leading religious body of Sikhs, of which the Sikh Panth needs to be aware.

Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal and Bhai Gurbakhsh Singh Khalsa, members of the SGPC and Federation leaders, said that the protestors against the Punjab School Education Board's book which has been misrepresenting Sikh history for the last few days.
Baldev Singh Sirsa is deliberately defaming the Shiromani Committee. He said that the protestors in front of the Punjab School Education Board office. Sirsa, Lakha Sidhana and some other mischievous people are slandering the SGPC under a well thought out conspiracy which cannot be tolerated.

He said that these people were deviating from the real issue during the dharna and raising the issue of Hindi book 'Sikh Itihas' published by the SGPC in 1999 without any reason, whereas the truth was that this book was withdrawn by the SGPC. .
He said that the case regarding this book has been read on the instructions of Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, according to which the book has been withdrawn. The book contained some objectionable facts and was banned after objections from the sangat. The SGPC officials clarified that a special resolution was passed during the General Session on November 23, 2007 banning the book.
Printed copies were withdrawn.
He said that this book was written by J.P. D. There was a Hindi translation of Cunningham's English book, The History of Sikhs, which was published in only 300 copies on the occasion of the third centenary of Khalsa Sajna Diwas. There were objections to this, in view of which the book was banned and at the same time advertisements were published in the newspapers first on 24th October 2010 and then on 11th August 2018. In addition, A case was also filed by Baldev Singh Sirsa with the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission Amritsar in 2007 in this regard, which was dismissed by the court in 2013.
He said that the book was rejected by the General House of the SGPC which is the apex court of the Shiromani SGPC in a resolution admitting the mistake in public.
He said that Some professionals, including Sirsa, who oppose the SGPC, are making it an issue for their own personal interests, which the sangat needs to be aware of.
On this occasion Deputy Secretary Media of Shiromani Committee Mr. Including Kulwinder Singh Ramdas. Paramjit Singh and others were present.
