BATHINDA: Punjab Police today house arrested veteran farmer leader of Samyukt Kisan Morcha Non-political) Jagjit Singh Dallewal to prevent him from holding a press conference in Bathinda.
Dallewal was expected to counter the allegations levelled against farmer leaders by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The CM has alleged that Kisan Union leaders are running various businesses and they are running their Unions like a shop. He had warned the farmer leaders from holding any protest on roads in the state and threatened them of dire consequences. Mann said that he would tolerate any disturbance in law and order by the farmer leaders. He also challenged farmer leaders for open debate.
The leaders of Bharti Kisan Union(Rajewal), Samyukt Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Union had condemend the attitude and derogratory language of Bhagwant Mann towards farmers and accepted the challenge of Bhagwant Mann for a debate on farmer issues. Dallewal had convened a press conference to reply to allegations made by CM. The police detained Dallewal at his residence in Faridkot before he could move out for the press conference.
