LUDHIANA: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today sought immediate interim relief for the flood hit people in Punjab, pending special 'girdawari'.
The PCC president also announced the setting up of ‘Flood Relief Coordination Committees’ for each of the thirteen parliamentary constituencies in Punjab.
Addressing a press conference after presiding over a special meeting for reviewing the flood situation here today, Warring said, while the special girdawri will take time, flood hit people need immediate assistance.
He demanded that as an immediate interim relief the government should provide Rs 51, 000 per acre, Rs 50, 000 for the loss of one animal and Rs 1.5 lakhs for those whose houses have been damaged.
He expressed grave concern over the deteriorating flood situation across Punjab as all the districts have been affected in the state.
The PCC president said that the current situation in Punjab demanded that everyone should rise above the partisan divide and work unitedly for the relief and rehabilitation of the people of Punjab.
He hoped that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will provide adequate relief to the affected people.
He said, without getting into politics or blame game right now, the priority should be ameliorating the plight of the flood hit people in the state.
He said, questions will be asked and the responsibility will be fixed later. But this is not the time to indulge in any blame game, he added.
Warring announced that the AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Bhagel will arrive in Amritsar on a three day visit on September 5, to have an assessment of the situation at the ground level.
Among those present in the meeting today included Capt Sandeep Sandhu, Rakesh Pandey, Surinder Dawer, Kuldeep Singh Vaid, Sanjay Talwar, Pawan Dewan, Simarjeet Singh Bains and others.
