CHANDIGARH: The failure of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to constitute a wage formulation committee (WFC) to recommend payscale to its employees has forced the PSEB Engineers Association to launch the protest at thermal plants with immediate effect.

PSEB Engineers Association in its emergency meeting decided that all engineers at thermal stations will keep their mobile phones switched off daily for three hours and to start work to rule from June 1 at both thermal stations.

Ajaypal Singh Atwal General secretary said that whereas Punjab government has announced new pay scales to its employees. In the case of PSPCL/ PSTCL categories and pay scales are different wage formulation committee is the only mechanism to settle pay revision as per tripartite agreement. The Association is of the view that delaying the formulation of WFC is a clever ploy by management to delay the new pay scales to its employees.

The Association gave a number of suggestions vide letter of 15th. April to improve the efficiency of the corporation. Atwal said they expected that PSPCL Management will also take care of issues being faced by the engineers. However, he lamented that while power engineers are working hard, with their hands tied due to shortage of staff, shortage of materials, current pandemic & other problems, management is giving step-motherly treatment to power engineers and, in some cases, is provoking the engineers.

The Association stressed that if the pending issues of power engineers are not resolved on top priority the protest will be extended to the whole of Punjab.
