KAPURTHALA : Procurement of paddy in Kapurthala district has crossed the estimated target during the current season as 796912 MT of paddy has been purchased till yesterday, which was more than the set target of 796120 MT.
Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Vishesh Sarangal said that the purchase of paddy in the district has been completed and the farmers have been paid Rs. 1640 crore against the procurement of paddy.
He said that with the support of farmers, labour, officials of procurement agencies, administrative officials, the work of paddy procurement was carried out in a smooth manner.
He said that the entire purchase of paddy in the mandis has been done by government agencies out of which 42 % of the paddy was purchased by Pungrain , 27 % by Markfed, 22 % by PUNSUP and 8 % by Punjab State Warehouse Corporation.
Deputy Commissioner also said that the farmers were able to get their amount against the procured paddy even before the given time frame.
It is to be mentioned that the farmers have to be paid within 48 hours after the purchase of paddy.
