PHAGWARA: A tractor caught fire during celebratory activities marking the acquisition of PR status by a family member, leading to a massive blaze that engulfed agricultural fields and caused extensive damage. The incident occurred in a village near Bhulath, where family members had organized a gathering and burst firecrackers in celebration. According to details visible from the scene, sparks from the firecrackers fell onto dry crop residue in the fields, igniting small flames that quickly spread. The tractor, which was stationed or moving close to the burning patches, came into direct contact with the fire, resulting in flames erupting around its wheels and engine before rapidly engulfing parts of the vehicle.
As the fire intensified, strong winds further fueled the blaze, allowing it to spread swiftly across the fields. The dry wheat crop acted as a major accelerant, causing the flames to expand uncontrollably. Within a short span, nearly 30 acres of wheat crop were reduced to ashes. The tractor also sustained severe damage as it remained surrounded by fire, with visible flames and smoke rising from its lower sections and engine area.
Farmers and locals made desperate attempts to douse the fire, but the intensity of the flames made it difficult to control. Fire brigade teams were eventually called to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control after considerable effort. Despite these efforts, significant agricultural loss had already occurred, affecting multiple farmers in the area.
According to available information, several farmers suffered losses to their standing crops, while the tractor present in the field was badly damaged in the incident. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, as individuals present managed to move away from the fire in time.
Authorities were informed following the incident, and a case has been registered. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and assess the extent of damage, while officials are also examining the role of firecracker use during the celebration in triggering the blaze.
