NHRC Special Monitor Reviews Welfare Services in Kapurthala

PHAGWARA: Special Monitor of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Bal Krishan Goel visited Kapurthala district today to review various public welfare services, including education, nutrition, and ration distribution.

He began his visit at the Government Primary School and Anganwadi Centre in Kadupur village, where he observed the facilities provided to children. He inspected the quality of education and the mid-day meals served to students, interacting with staff to understand the challenges they face.

Goel reached Wadala Bet village to examine the Public Distribution System (PDS). He spoke directly with beneficiaries to hear about their experiences and problems in receiving ration supplies. He instructed the officials to ensure that every eligible person must receive their full entitlement under the PDS without any delays or irregularities.

Later in the day, he visited the Sukhjit Ashram in Kapurthala city, a shelter home for children. There, he reviewed the care being provided to the children and emphasized the importance of paying special attention to their education, health, and overall well-being.

Before starting the field visits, Shri Goel was formally welcomed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Navneet Kaur Bal, who gave him an overview of the district’s ongoing welfare initiatives. Several senior officials, including SDM Major Dr. Irwin Kaur, DSP Deepakarn Singh, District Program Officer Rajeev Dhanda, District Education Officer (Elementary) Mamta Bajaj, and Deputy DEO (Secondary) Rajesh were also present during the visit.
