PHAGWARA: Congress MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, has urged the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib to take immediate cognisance of what he described as a grave betrayal of faith, trust and justice by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab over the unresolved sacrilege and Behbal Kalan firing cases.
In a strongly worded statement, Khaira appealed for the summoning of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, reminding that he had taken a solemn oath before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to ensure justice in these cases within one and a half months, failing which he would submit himself before the Guru. Despite more than three years having passed, Khaira said, neither justice has been delivered nor has the Speaker honoured his oath, terming it a false pledge before the Guru and a matter of the “highest religious seriousness” warranting intervention from Sri Akal Takhat Sahib.
Khaira further questioned the silence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging deliberate inaction even after follower Pradeep Kler reportedly admitted in court that sacrileges were committed at the behest of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. He said the failure to even question Ram Rahim raises troubling doubts about the government’s intentions and integrity. Calling the conduct of the Speaker and Chief Minister a betrayal of global Sikh sentiment and an erosion of institutional credibility, Khaira also challenged AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal to explain why his pre-poll promise to ensure justice within 24 hours remains unfulfilled. He demanded answers on the unresolved 2017 Maur bomb blast case as well, accusing AAP of abandoning its commitments to victims.
