AMRITSAR: The Department of Animal Nutrition and Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (KCVAS), Amritsar, conducted a hands-on workshop - ‘Computation of Ration, Concentrate & Silage Preparation’ for Veterinary Resident Doctors/Registrar. The objective of the workshop was to impart practical knowledge on Animal Nutrition along with hands on training and skills related to Ration, Concentrate and Silage Preparation.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. HK Verma, Principal, KCVAS along with Dr. MK Mehta & other colleagues. The event began with an expert lecture(s) on Computation of Ration & Silage Preparation by Dr. MK Mehta and Dr. Shubham Thakur highlighting the importance of feeding, ration calculation and preparation. This was followed by a practical training session at the LFC, where participants received direct exposure to proper feed preparation by using different raw ingredients further, using the electric grinder along with their proper mixing of ration cum grain size.
Further, the silage preparation from Maize crop was demonstrated and Silage in the form of ‘Bag Silage’ was prepared which is to be used after 3-4 weeks. Interestingly, lot of doubts & queries of the Neo Vets were cleared on the spot for maximum learning.
The initiative was appreciated by the participants and aligns with the college’s commitment to promote quality Livestock related education and farm management practices. The workshop is the initiative of Dr. Verma for providing knowledge to the farmers through good practices awareness by Neo Vets. The Workshop was conducted by Dr. Shubham Thakur while Dr. Prince Chauhan also helped for smooth conduct.
The LFC, Head, Dr. RK Taggar provided all the training related facilities for this workshop. The feeding of the animals is very important as 60-70% of expenditure is on it and balanced feeding is the basis of healthy animals & creates strong immunity for frightening against diseases making farm sustainable, said Dr. Verma. The animal Nutrition department is preparing area specific mineral mixture for the dairy animals & is available 24 x 7 at the hospital premises.
