PHAGWARA: Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala, Amit Kumar Panchal, has directed all concerned departments to complete flood prevention and preparedness measures by June 15 without fail. Chairing a review meeting at the District Administrative Complex today, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized proactive action and coordination among departments to ensure public safety ahead of the monsoon season.
During the meeting, which was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), officials from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other departments, Panchal instructed SDMs to regularly inspect flood protection works, especially along the Dhussi embankment, and to immediately report and repair any weak spots.
The Irrigation Department was tasked with identifying vulnerable sections of embankments, while the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) were directed to ensure proper drainage by cleaning culverts beneath major roads.
Panchal also asked the Drainage Department to share daily rainfall and gauge readings with the administration. Control rooms are to be set up at the sub-divisional level to maintain constant communication and response readiness.
In view of any unforeseen emergencies, the Health Department has been instructed to ensure the adequate supply of essential medicines, and the Animal Husbandry Department is to make arrangements for livestock vaccination and availability of green fodder.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed all sub-divisions to compile lists of boats, motorboats, and trained divers to be deployed if needed during rescue operations.

Present at the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa, all SDMs, and other senior officials.
