Excise department employees or contractors will not carry out raids without police presence

AMRITSAR: Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who also holds the charge of Home Department, has directed to deploy more police force to expedite patrols at police check posts in the area.

He said that Punjab Police should form a line of defense on the basis of the second line of defense set up by the paramilitary forces on the border.

He assured the police that all the equipment would be provided to them and said that Punjab Police is the best police in the country and I have full confidence in my police.

He said that there was no political pressure on you for the protection of any bad ansar and you should work for the security of the state as per your law.

Speaking to the press on the occasion, the Home Minister said that as per the strategy formulated by the police, from senior officers to police station chiefs would remain in their respective jurisdictions and action would be taken against any officer found outside their area or absent.

He said that for this purpose teams of officers have been formed which would ensure unannounced inspection of the officers and staff deployed in the field.

Mr. Randhawa said that plans have been made to install CCTV cameras in cities as well as villages and for this work would be started soon so that the criminals could not escape the notice of the police.

He said that Rs.75 crore has been released to Police Housing Corporation for this purpose.

He clarified that the district police chief would not provide bodyguards to any needy person and for this action would be taken only after getting the entire report from the head office.

Mr. Randhawa said that in order to cater to the security needs a separate cadre would be formed which would cater to the needs of the entire state.

Talking to police officials for eradication of drugs. Randhawa directed to strictly stop the sale of drugs in medical stores. He also took serious note of the raids carried out by the Excise Department and liquor contractors under the guise of illicit liquor and said that no such raid would be carried out in the absence of local police.

On the occasion Special Principal Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Varun Rozam, DGP Mr. Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, ADGP Mr. A. S. Rai, Mr. R. Mr. N Dhoke, IG Border Range Mr. Munish Chawla, Commissioner Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, Commissioner Naunihal Singh, Deputy Commissioner. Apart from Gurpreet Singh Khaira, Chiefs of Police of Border Range and Jalandhar Range were also present.
