PHAGWARA: Phagwara, August 9 :-In preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Jalandhar Range police carried out an extensive Night Domination exercise on the intervening night of August 8 and 9, 2025, with the objective of reviewing security arrangements, deterring unlawful activities, and reassuring the public of a safe environment.
The exercise was personally supervised by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, who was joined by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala Gaurav Toora, SSP Jalandhar Rural Harvinder Singh Virk, and SSP Hoshiarpur. The operation spanned multiple districts and was conducted in line with standard policing protocols, ensuring that all checks and detentions adhered to legal procedures and respected citizens’ rights.
A total of 722 police personnel participated, including three SSPs, 30 gazetted officers, 45 Station House Officers, 212 non-gazetted officers, and 432 enrolled police officers. Security measures included 72 checkpoints (nakas) and 95 patrolling units strategically deployed to monitor key areas and vulnerable locations.
During the operation, police checked 742 suspected persons, 85 of whom were rounded up for further inquiry based on reasonable suspicion and available evidence. Authorities inspected 977 vehicles, impounding four for violations, and issued 98 traffic challans in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act. In addition, 53 vital and vulnerable installation points were inspected to assess security readiness.
DIG Naveen Singla stated that the exercise demonstrated the police force’s commitment to proactive security measures, adding that such coordinated operations are critical in preventing incidents and maintaining public trust. He commended the cooperation of all district police units and urged citizens to extend their support by reporting any suspicious activities.
The Jalandhar Range police emphasised that all enforcement actions were carried out with due regard to legal safeguards and that the primary focus remained on ensuring a secure and peaceful environment for Independence Day celebrations.
