Walled city, airport and villages exempted from blackout exercise
AMRITSAR: Under Operation Shield, a blackout exercise will be conducted in Amritsar from 8 pm to 8:30 pm i.e. for half an hour.
Giving this information, Additional Deputy Commissioner Urban Development Amit Sarin said that the inner areas of Amritsar i.e. Walled City, Amritsar Airport and villages have been exempted from this blackout exercise. This means that the lights will not be switched off in these places.
He said that this is just a practice for how we all have to cooperate during a crisis , so there is no need to panic , only your cooperation will be needed.
He appealed to the city residents that when the siren sounds at 8 o'clock, you have to turn off all the lights outside your house, whether it is the automatic light on the cameras or the lights running on the inverter , make sure to turn off all the lights. Apart from this, if you have to turn on the lights inside the house, then make thick curtains or such an arrangement that the light does not go out through the windows.
He said that the safest place during a blackout is the ground floor , so you have to practice sitting in the middle of your ground floor room. Try to sit in a place where there is no glass window nearby. Do not roam on the roof, in the street or in an open space outside during a blackout. Those who will be travelling on the road during this time should turn off the lights of their vehicles i.e. cars, scooters , motorcycles and stand on the side of the road.
He said that before this, a mock drill will also be conducted by the Civil Defence at Dussehra Ground located on Ranjit Avenue from 6 to 7 pm.
