Bibi Jagir Kaur releases new edition of 1984 book on 'Massacre of Sikhs'

AMRITSAR: The new edition of the book 'Massacre of Sikhs' on the details of the shameful massacre that took place across the country against the Sikhs in November 1984 was released by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee(SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur.Senior Vice President. Surjit Singh Bhitewad and Chief Secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami were also present on occasion.

The book was published in June 1985 by the SGPC in four volumes. The four parts of which have been compiled and reprinted by the Dharam Prachar Committee.

Releasing the book, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the year 1984 has left an indelible mark on the Sikhs. After the Union Government's attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib in June 1984, genocide of Sikhs was carried out in November 1984 in other parts of the country, including Delhi, which the Sikh community can never forget.

This is the cruelty that proved to be a permanent disgrace on the forehead of the then Congress government She said.

She said that Surjit Singh Sokhi has done a historic job of recording in this book the information gathered from the eyewitnesses of the November 1984 Sikh genocide.

Now, by compiling its four parts, the Dharam Prachar Committee has made an effort to make the people of the world aware of the details of this shameful massacre against the Sikhs. She said that this book would perpetuate the atrocities perpetrated on the Sikh community by the then Congress government.

Talking about the book, senior vice president of the SGPC . Surjit Singh Bhitewad and Chief Secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that it was a historic resource for future generations which would continue to educate the youth about the atrocities perpetrated on Sikhs.
