AMRITSAR: Bibi Jagir Kaur President Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has asked all the schools to start with daily prayers with Gurbani Shabds (hymns) and at the same time religious classes should be conducted in schools and colleges one day a week to inculcate Gurmat (teachings of the Sikh Gurus) in the children.
She said if the educational institutions do not have a religious teacher, then SGPC should be contacted for the services of the SGPC pracharaks.
The SGPC is running a number of educational and religious institutions as well as medical universities and colleges.
Bibi Jagir Kaur was addressing special gathering of religious and educational institutions dedicated to the centenary year of the SGPC was held on Tuesday at Sri Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana to discuss
further improvement in the educational institutions under the SGPC management.
The gathering was presided over by SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur and was attended by SGPC office bearers, members, managers of various Gurdwaras, principals of schools, colleges, and pracharaks (preachers).
Bibi Jagir Kaur said that if the students who have taken education from the SGPC schools are interested in taking admission at the SGPC's engineering colleges, then they will be given a discount of Rs 30, 000 on the fee.
On this occasion appointment letters were also handed over by the SGPC to about 300 newly recruited teachers and lecturers. At the same time, it was also decided to release Rs 11 crore for the backlog salaries of the teachers of the different educational institutions of the SGPC.
While talking to the media, SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the SGPC has made great strides in flourishing the Sikh faith as well as providing health services and educational facilities to the people. She said that a discussion has been held to make the educational institutions of the SGPC better.
On this occasion the SGPC chief secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, former minister Maheshinder Singh Grewal, SGPC executive committee members Navtej Singh Kauni, Ajmer Singh Khera, Satwinder Singh Tohra, and Amrik Singh Shahpur, SGPC members Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Mithu Singh Kahneke, and Charanjit Singh Alamgir, additional secretary Sukhminder Singh, assistant secretary Simarjeet Singh, director education Bibi Tajinder Kaur, deputy director Bibi Satwant Kaur, OSD to SGPC president Dr Sukhbir Singh and other prominent personalities were present.
