Bhagwant Mann govt in Punjab loses its War Against Drugs: Partap Singh Bajwa

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | May 27, 2025 09:49 PM

CHANDIGARH: The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa, on Tuesday lashed out at the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government for its inefficacy in curbing the growing drug menace in Punjab.

"Yet another deadline set by the AAP government and officiating DGP Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, to eradicate the drug menace by May 31 has proven to be a farce. Six trainee constables at the Police Recruits Training Centre in Jahan Khelan (Hoshiarpur) have tested positive for narcotics. The recruits have now been sent back to their home districts without completing basic training, " Bajwa stated.

Bajwa said that a woman constable had already been caught with 17.71 grams of heroin in the Bathinda district. When the police personnel have been indulging in drug peddling and drug abuse, who will protect the Punjabi?

Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has lost his much-hyped War Against Drugs long back. Six trainee constables testing positive for narcotics is the perfect example of the fact mentioned above. Still, CM Mann has not shied away from making deceitful claims about ending drug peddling to gain media attention.

"The youth of Punjab continue to succumb to drug overdose. Recently a 19-year-old Karanbir Singh from Tarn Taran has died of a drug overdose. However, the AAP government seems to have developed a thick skin and has stopped being sensitive, " Bajwa added.

In a press statement, the LoP said that instead of working on the ground with dedication, the Mann government preferred false publicity. It squandered Punjab's taxpayers' money on misleading advertisements in various media outlets and on hoardings relating to ending drug abuse.
