AMRITSAR: Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, has welcomed the issue of postal stamp on the occasion of 401st Prakash Diwas of Guru Tegh Bahadur .
In a statement issued today, the Jathedar said that it was a matter of great pleasure that after a long time, the Government of India remembered Guru Sahib. In memory of the blessed Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a two day long Gurmat Samagam at the Red Fort and issued a coin and a stamp in the memory of Guru Sahib. If we Sikhs do not thank the Government of India on this occasion, it will be a matter of indifference, he said.
He said that we thank the Government of India and Narendra Modi. The Jathedar said that last time when Home Minister Amit Shah came to pay obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib, here I met him at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. I made them aware of many issues related to the Sikh community, he added
He said that even then Home Minister Amit Shah had assured that we would resolve these issues. There are many issues but the most important issue is the release of the Sikh detainees . A notification dedicated to the 550th Prakash Diwas of Guru Nanak Dev Ji was issued by the Government of India on 12 November 2019.
According to the notification, the governments of those states should be directed to release the prisoners. The hanging of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana should be commuted to life imprisonment. But sadly, the Chandigarh administration has kept the case of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana pending. The file of Prof. Davinderpal Pal Singh Bhullar has been suppressed by the Delhi Government and the case of Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera has not been resolved by the Karnataka Government till date. Similarly, Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and the rest of the prisoners who are in jail should be released soon.
"I would also like to say to the Government of India that since 1947 the governments of the time have inflicted heavy wounds on the Sikh village.
The Government of India under the leadership of Modi will definitely try to heal the wounds of Sikhs. We want to take steps towards the present government. And we also want the government to take action. Let us live together, live with dignity and be honored. Let us respect this country, Jathedar said.
