AAP Leader Daljit Raju Seeks Protection Amid Firing, Extortion Case

ASHOK KAURA | January 15, 2026 07:07 PM

PHAGWARA: Threat calls to senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and social activist Daljit Singh Raju have continued unabated despite his repeated appeals to state security agencies and written representations to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, raising serious concerns over his safety and that of his family. The latest instance was reported late last night, when Raju allegedly received an abusive and threatening call from an international number, in which the caller warned him to arrange security for himself but said neither he nor his son would be spared.

According to Raju, the threatening call was received from a UK-based number and was laced with vulgar language and explicit threats. He claimed the call has been recorded and shared with the concerned police authorities as part of the ongoing investigation. The fresh threat comes weeks after an armed attack on his residence and despite assurances of action by the police, prompting Raju to reiterate his demand for stronger security measures and swift arrests.

Raju has earlier informed the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister that his house, located in Darvesh Pind village in the Phagwara subdivision of Kapurthala district, was targeted by unidentified armed assailants on the intervening night of November 27 and 28, 2025. He alleged that 25 to 27 rounds were fired at the residence while his family members were inside, and a ransom note demanding ₹5 crore was thrown into the courtyard, threatening dire consequences if the demand was not met
