AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami raised serious questions about the politics being played by the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab on the issue related to the 328 sacred forms of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, saying that the government is playing with Sikh sentiments by adopting a double policy.
He said that on one hand, incidents of sacrilege are constantly coming to light during the tenure of Bhagwant Mann government, while on the other hand, deliberate interference is being done in the internal administrative matters of the SGPC to divert people's attention from these serious matters.
Advocate Dhami said that Bhagwant Mann is doing such politics to please his political boss Arvind Kejriwal and save his Chief Minister's chair.
He said that the Bhagwant Mann government has failed miserably in delivering justice in the Bargari sacrilege case and other sacrilege incidents. Not only has the government failed to punish the culprits, but no concrete and effective steps have been taken to stop the incidents of sacrilege.
He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee is an elected body of the Sikh Panth, and by violating its independent existence and constitutional dignity, the Mann government is working on a policy of weakening this central body of the minority Sikhs under some agenda.
He said that it is in no way right for any government to deliberately misrepresent the administrative affairs of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and indulge in divisive politics.
Advocate Dhami said in clear words that the Punjab government should stop playing politics in the matter of 328 holy images that have been seized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and not force it to engage in a fierce struggle in this regard.
