11 member committee to meet PM and Home Minister for the release of detainee Sikh prisoners

AMRITSAR: The 11-member high-powered committee set up by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on the instructions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has decided to meet Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to raise the issue of Sikh detainees release those who have completed their imprisonment.

Harjinder Singh Dhami President SGPC said that efforts would be made to make the meeting possible within 15 days. In addition, Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khera, whose release has been hampered by the governments of the two states, will also meet the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Karnataka.
SGPC President said that sub-committees would also be constituted before this committee as required.

Simultaneously, the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Karnataka would also be called upon to take immediate decision on the release of Sikh detainees with state powers.

He said that with the concurrence of all the members of the committee, it has been decided to form an advisory committee of retired judges of the Supreme Court and High Court and to seek the views of all the organizations.

Advocate Dhami also said that the entire committee would come together to meet any leader including the Prime Minister of the country regarding the release of prisoners.

He said that before meeting the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, a detailed list of all the Sikh prisoners of the Sikh struggle would be prepared, in which complete information about the Sikh prisoners and the current situation would be recorded. The aim is to reach out to the governments so that they can find out which prisoners have spent more time in jails than their sentences. The SGPC President said that a resolution was also passed in the meeting of the committee thanking the organizations and Sikh leaders for their relentless efforts for the release of the captives and respecting the martyrdom of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa Efforts have been made by all the committee members.

Speaking to reporters after the gathering, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the SGPC, said that the committee formed under the joint Panthic effort for the release of the captives had decided to take up the issue at all levels with unity and in principle.

He will soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He said that all the members of the gathering appreciated the efforts made by Panthic Ekta for the release of the captives and pledged to take the matter to a united front and pledged to render their due service diligently.

Meanwhile, Mr Dhami said that the 465 cases registered against Sikhs for decorating Nagar Kirtan at Takht Sri Hazur Sahib during the Kovid ban on Hola Mahal last year would also be prosecuted. We will approach the Chief Minister of Maharashtra regarding this matter and take action to get the case dismissed.
