AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sri Akal Takht Sahib management have become active after cases of conversion came to light in the districts bordering Pakistan, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran.
Videos and complaints related to this are constantly reaching them. Now SGPC has started 'Ghar Ghar Me Dharamshal' campaign to propagate Sikhism across the state. Under this, the Sikh sect will be promoted from door to door and Sikh literature will also be distributed.
Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib said that complaints are being received from him through phone for a long time. Missionaries in some churches in the border areas are allegedly converting economically weaker people into Christians by misleading and luring them. This is a big challenge in the times to come. There should not be any kind of coercion, greed or deception
Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh said that the alleged lure of conversion by Christian missionaries is a matter of concern .Religious sikhs (Hindu Dalits who had adopted the Sikh sect long ago) are the target of Christian missionaries because of their economic weakness. To stop this effort, Ajal Takht management and SGPC have constituted more than 150 committees for propagation of religion. Five to eight persons have been included granthis. Preachers, raagis, members of SGPC and local Gurdwara committees. Centres of committees have been set up in Majha, Malwa and Doaba zones.
The propaganda committees will go from village to village and propagate the religion. These committees will also conduct "Amrit Sanchar " programme on the last day after campaigning.
On the issues of conversion, SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur said that Sikhism has no competition with any religion. This is a very strong religion in itself and the Sikh who converts his religion is not a Sikh in the true sense.
