CHANDIGARH: The Education Department, Punjab has suspended 3 employees in 3 different cases involving gross negligence of duty regarding harassment faced by employees/teachers thronging departmental offices for important works and undue delay in cases concerning disbursing/releasing post retirement benefits, jobs on compassionate grounds and court cases. The step has been taken as per the directions issued by Education Minister, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.

Disclosing this here today, D.P.I. (Secondary Education) Mr. Balbir Singh Dhol said that Sartajbir Singh serving as Clerk in office of District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Amritsar, Jasvir Singh serving as Clerk at office of District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Hoshiarpur and Amarjit Singh Senior Assistant at Headquarters have been placed under suspension with immediate effect.

Divulging more, Mr. Dhol said that Sartajbir Singh first sent a list of 2 vacant stations on 12th March for selection of choice stations in the case of job on compassionate grounds. The said employee afterwards by hand brought a list of 4 vacant stations. This resulted in a women candidate facing difficulty in not getting choice station which she should have got earlier. It caused harm to the transparent policy of the department regarding station choice. Taking a strong notice of this dereliction of duty, a preliminary enquiry found sartajbir singh guilty in consequence of which he was placed under suspension and issued a chargesheet. He is now attached with divisional education office , Jalandhar.
He further said that in a similar case, cases regarding promotions from S.V.D. cadre to Master cadre were sought and promotions were granted in the cases reaching on time but teachers of District Hoshiarpur brought to the notice of department the fact that inspite of sending their cases on time they remained devoid of promotions. The preliminary enquiry revealed that Jasvir Singh kept these cases pending with himself which caused delay. The department has decided to grant promotions from that date to the employees who applied for promotion on time. The erring employee has been suspended with immediate effect and issued a chargesheet. His headquarter has been fixed at Office of District Education Officer, Gurdaspur.

The D.P.I. further said that in another important court case, the education department had to face serious litigation due to non-action on approximately 17000 letters under consideration and the matter not being brought to the notice of higher officials. After preliminary enquiry, senior assistant Amarjit Singh posted at headquarters was found guilty as a consequence of which he was suspended with immediate effect and his headquarter was fixed at office of D.P.I. (Colleges).

Mr. Dhol also said that as per orders of Education Minister and Principal Secretary, any negligence by employees/officers would not be tolerated and besides this, if common people or teachers or employees faced any sort of harassment at any block, district, division office or headquarter, then erring official would be strictly proceeded against.
