KAPURTHALA: Kapurthala, November 23: A shocking incident came to light on Thursday evening when the body of a newborn baby girl was found abandoned in the playground of village Mahmadpur in Bhulath subdivision. According to police, local residents noticed the body and immediately informed the authorities.
Bhulath police reached the spot and took custody of the body, which has been sent to the mortuary for further examination. Confirming the incident, Bhulath DSP Karnail Singh said that the infant’s body had also been partially eaten by stray animals. He added that the health department has been informed about the matter.
As per initial police investigation, the baby appears to be two to three days old. ASI Sham Singh, who reached the location with a police team, has initiated further inquiry.
DSP Karnail Singh stated that efforts are underway to identify the baby and her mother by conducting inquiries in nearby villages. Meanwhile, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Bhagat said that the health department has received the information and records of recent deliveries in the surrounding areas will be checked over the next few days.
Police are investigating the case and trying to determine whether the baby was abandoned after birth or if foul play was involved. Further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report.
