Empowering young-minds; Topper students get first hand experience of governance, public service

CHANDIGARH: Under the pioneering 'Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang' initiative launched by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government, the top-performing Class 10th and 12th students from the state government schools spent a day with top bureaucrats— Deputy Commissioners, Commissioners of Police (CPs), and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to fuel their aspirations and inspire them to aim high in life.

Deputy Commissioners of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala, along with Commissioner of Police, Jalandar and SSP Kapurthala, spent the day with the topper students to providing them a firsthand experience into governance, discipline and public service delivery.

These IAS and IPS officers also shared their personal struggles, achievements and challenges to provide them a deeper understanding of governance and public service.

DC Jalandhar Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal engaged with district topper of Class 12th students (all three of non-medical stream) - Madhavi Salaria (99%), Sakshi (98.60%), and Amanpreet Kaur (98.40%) - taking them on a tour of the DC office, SDM Court, Sewa Kendra, Sub Registrar Office, and briefing them on the registration process.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar Ms. Dhanpreet Kaur spent the day with Class 10th district toppers Preeti Kumari (97.85%), Navneet Kaur (97.54%) and Neelu Kumari (97.54%), sharing insights into law enforcement, police role in maintenance of public order.

The Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Ms. Sakshi Sawhney, hosted the district’s Class 10th top-achievers Meharpreet Kaur (99.38%), Arnoorbir Kaur (98.30%) and Arshdeep Singh (97.84%) and provided them a firsthand glimpse into governance and public service. Over lunch at her residence, Ms. Sakshi Sawhney also shared her journey to becoming a DC, emphasising the importance of hard work, and making a career choice for the right reasons instead of any kind of pressure. She emphasised that real earning should not just be counted in salary but rather the internal satisfaction that you get. She also stated that serving as part of the Indian Administrative Service had given her an opportunity to do something beyond herself and to make a difference in her own way by helping others which brought her immense satisfaction.

The class 10th topper from Hoshiarpur district Mehakpreet Kaur (98.46%), Surekha (98.30%) and Manatvay Singh (96.61%) spent their entire day with DC Hoshiarpur Ms. Aashika Jain. The DC introduced them to the working of the bureaucracy and the district administration, leadership principles and discipline, besides instilling a spirit of public service.

The Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala Mr. Amit Kumar Panchal spent his day with district topper of class 12th students— Ankita Sharma, Ravnit Kaur, and Tania— sharing his IAS journey and advising them to work hard and adopt a never-give-up attitude. Meanwhile, SSP Kapurthala Mr. Gaurav Toora interacted with Class 10th toppers Manpreet Kaur (96.77%), Kamaljeet Kaur (96.46%) and Anjali Kumari (95.84%) and encouraged them to excel in their chosen fields.
