SGPC to provide assistance of Rs.5 lakh each to the families of Sikhs killed in the attack in Poonch, Jammu

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to provide assistance of Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of Sikhs killed in the attack in Poonch, Jammu recently.

This decision was taken during the meeting of SGPC executive committee which was held under the chairmanship of Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami here on Tuesday.

After the meeting SGPC while talking to media persons Advocate Dhami said that this time is very painful for the families of the victims and the SGPC will provide them with all possible help.

Advocate Dhami said that Bhai Rajoana has written a detailed letter to the SGPC, in which he has mentioned the discrimination being done to Sikhs by the governments. In this letter, Bhai Rajoana has also mentioned the withdrawal of the petition filed by the SGPC regarding him.

Advocate Dhammi said that Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has announced to take a decision soon after considering the petition filed regarding Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.

He said that this is a national issue, regarding which the SGPC is trying to form a national opinion by holding meetings with the representative organizations of the Sikh Panth, Nihang Singhs and Taksals. Two meetings have been held in this regard earlier and a meeting will be held with Sikh judges and lawyers in Chandigarh on May 17. After this, a representative Panthic gathering will be called and a decision will be taken according to Panthic sentiments.

Giving information about other decisions taken during the meeting, Advocate Dhami said that the road from Langar Sri Guru Ramdas Ji to Baba Atal Rai Sahib will be beautified. Beautiful trees will be planted on both sides here, so that the Sangat can get a green and shady environment. This service will be done by Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuriwale.

He said that meeting has also decided to install the photographs of Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Giani Mohan Singh, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Baba Inderjit Singh Rakbewale, Baba Bishan Singh Tarna Dal Baba Bakala, SGPC member Randhir Singh Cheema in the Central Sikh Museum.

A condolence message was read regarding Major Singh Swadi, father of narrator Giani Pinderpal Singh Hardial Singh and 4 Sikhs killed during the attack in Paunch (Kashmir) and tributes were paid by chanting the Moolmantar and Gurmantar.
