PHAGWARA: Rajya Sabha member of Aam Aadmi Party(AAP), Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal has issued a strong warning to the United States against what he termed as “unfair” economic pressure on India and declared that the Lovely Professional university fraternity would begin boycotting American soft drinks and other products from August 27 if Washington does not roll back its recently imposed 50% tariff on Indian exports.

Addressing the crowd after hoisting national flag on 79th Independence Day in LPU premises on Friday, He called the move “detrimental to India’s economic sovereignty” and vowed that India’s youth would stand firm against any external attempt to undermine the nation’s progress.

“India’s youth will not bow to external pressure, ” he said to resounding applause. “If anyone undermines our nation’s economic or overall progress, we will respond with firmness and unity, because today’s India is powerful.” The announcement was met with a collective pledge from the LPU community, underscoring a growing sentiment of resistance to unfair trade practices.

Beyond the economic warning, the celebrations showcased LPU’s commitment to national pride and holistic development. More than 200 sportspersons were honoured for their national and international achievements with ₹80 lakh in rewards, while NCC cadets were conferred with distinguished ranks, reinforcing values of discipline and leadership. A solemn salute was also offered to the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces in recognition of their sacrifice in safeguarding India’s sovereignty.
The day-long celebrations on the university campus were infused with patriotic music, cultural performances, and traditional artistry, creating an atmosphere of unity and national pride. Concluding the event, the LPU fraternity pledged to uphold the values of integrity, innovation, and patriotism in all pursuits—echoing Dr. Mittal’s call for an “India First” resolve.
