MOHALI: A CRPF soldier, who was posted at Chashmule post, Leh, where temperature dips extremely, got a new lease of life after a successful brain surgery for hemorrhagic brain stroke at Park Grecian Hospital, Mohali recently.

Due to the extreme weather conditions, the soldier's blood was thickened abnormally thus causing his hemoglobin to rise. This led to a hemorrhagic brain stroke, a critical condition requiring immediate medical attention. In such harsh climate conditions in Leh, hemoglobin levels can go as high as 24 g/dl.

The soldier was airlifted by the Indian Air Force in an IL-76 aircraft to Mohali and admitted to Park Grecian Hospital in a critical condition. Without wasting any time, the neurosurgical team, led by Dr. Anil Sofat, consultant neurosurgery, performed emergency brain surgery around midnight, which continued for six hours.

Following the surgery, the patient was kept on ventilator support for four days. He is now recovering well and out of danger thanks to the timely intervention at Park.

Talking about the case, Dr. Anil Sofat said, “It was a high-risk case due to the patient’s condition. There was a massive midline shift and severe brain edema. Our team worked tirelessly through the night to save his life. Post-operatively, the patient was also very well managed by our critical care team. We feel honored to have been able to serve a soldier who serves the nation under such harsh conditions.

Meanwhile Park Grecian Hospital, Mohali with its advanced neurosurgical and critical care facilities, once again reaffirms its commitment to saving lives in even the most critical situations.
