CHANDIGARH/SANGRUR:While criticising Arvind Kejriwal for favouring Delhi Education model Punjab cabinet minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla slammed the Delhi Government for deceiving people with over exaggerated claims of their Delhi Model.

Mr. Singla's remarks came on the back of a statement made by Manish Sisodia on education in Punjab. He said that the Delhi model stood thoroughly exposed now and that the people of Punjab recognised this. Sisodia made big claims about education in Delhi but failed to recognise that Punjab stands number one on the Performance Grading Index (PGI) which is conducted by the Government of India to rank the performance of states on seventy different parameters. The education system in Punjab has undergone rigorous process of scrutiny and has been placed number one in all of India among all states.

Mr. Vijay Inder Singla who formerly held the education portfolio, when Punjab achieved this milestone further turned the screws on Kejriwal by pointing out that Punjab Government managed about 19, 000 schools whereas Delhi Government managed only a meagre 2, 000. He enumerated the different facts and achievements of the Punjab Government and the steps ushered in during his tenure which, helped Punjab to achieve number one ranking.

Mr. Singla stated that the Punjab Government started the smart school campaign in 2019 to revolutionize the infrastructure, since then govt. has successfully converted around 13, 000 schools into smart schools and the state has gone one step ahead and already started converting these into Super Smart schools. We will become the first Government in India to provide a smart classroom in all Government schools at all levels. We have also focused on our teachers and ensuring that we have a clear and transparent system. We have ushered in a new era of meritocracy in the education department. We have set up an online teachers transfer policy which, facilitates transfers of teachers based purely on their performance and merit. Never before had such a system existed and this ensures that our children get the best out of their teachers.

Mr. Singla said that Punjab has become the leading state in education and has set the benchmark as seen in the PGI rankings which ascribed rank 1 to Punjab. We have seen an astronomical rise in enrolments as 5.5 Lakh students and counting have shifted into Government schools from private schools. We have started providing innovative modes of education which has left even private schools behind. Punjab Board PSEB results 2021 have seen govt schools getting 98% pass percentage which is 3.71% more than last year. When we think about the future of school education, it needs to encompass complete overall holistic development of the child. Keeping that in mind we have focused on bringing smart playgrounds into schools, setting up smart language listening labs with hi-tech equipment to innovatively engage children and make sure they imbibe valuable practical skills.

He said that our education system has seen tremendous growth by leaps and bounds and has left Delhi far behind despite managing around 19, 000 schools to their 2, 000. We have excelled and shown that the Delhi AAP model is a sham and the people of Punjab only trust the Congress Government for overall development of Punjab and it's youth.
